Allison Transmission to Deliver 5 Millionth Automatic Transmissions

General Motors’ Indianapolis-based Allison Transmission has announced recently that the delivery of its 5 millionth automatic transmission.

The manufacturing facility of GM’s Allison Transmission in Szengotthard, Hungary is the one producing the automatic transmissions. The 3000 series transmission was fitted to a Renault refrigerated truck and was delivered to leading French chilled distribution operator Transport Frogorifiques Europeens.

The delivery of the five millionth automatic transmissions was in conjunction with the company’s confirmation that the 2006 was a record year for units’ sales and revenue. The demand for Allison transmissions has reached an amazing level in several regions of which includes Europe, Asia, and North America. Unfortunately with the increasing gasoline prices in the Midwest, the company’s development of hybrid vehicle systems is probably gaining that same degree of popularity.

Last May, Allison Transmission has announced that it would benefit from a deal between its parent company General Motors and bus maker New Flyer Industries Ltd. to sell 500 hybrid buses to Seattle’s King County in Washington State. Allison will produce the hybrid systems for these buses. But according to GM spokesman Brian Corbett, the five-year contract valued at as much as $500 million will not likely to affect staffing levels in Indianapolis.
