Argumentative paper is like the two sides of a coin, but make sure that you haven’t picked up a counterfeit coin. That is to say, if your ‘for’ argument is weak, your ‘against’ argument will also be weak. Another important point is, what you argue is not important. How you argue, what you argue is important. If you wish to have the real feel of the subject of argument, and before commencing to write an argumentative paper, read some law journals. Take time to visit a Court, and sit on the visitor’s gallery to hear the arguments and counter arguments of those donning black gowns. Alternatively, to save your precious time, just partially open the main door of your block to overhear the arguments and counter arguments of your neighbor couple. You will get some original ideas and your research on the subject will be authentic and original.
Before switching on your brainwave button to write an argumentative paper, you need to be sure about the group that you are going to attack. How will you threaten and conquer the world with your witticisms? Mind you, you are going to intellectually challenge the audience with your argumentative paper and perhaps it will be a life-time experience for them. Who is that fortunate or unfortunate reader? Is he is your teacher who has the die-hard experience of reading hundreds of argumentative papers of his students year after year? Are they your classmates, who are accustomed to your jokes? Is it the general public? You need to cater to the appropriate needs according to the type of audience. You need to collect the relevant background information. In most of the cases, the teacher tells you in advance about the target audience. If you have any confusion over the matter, do not hesitate to consult your teacher.
In any case, now that you have decided to write the argumentative paper, suffering is inevitable to some section of the society. So, think all the pros and cons with a scientific approach, unless you wish to make a fool of yourself while counter- arguing what you so passionately argued moments ago. The important ingredients of an argumentative paper are, the thesis( the central idea), context( the proper setting), reasons( your research), counter arguments(why you think differently) and then the final response( denials-every good or bad thing has to come to an end!) As you write the paper let all these points hover in your mind. But not to the point of confusing you! Try to think in an orderly manner and pen down the points methodically, thinking that the man who is making gallant efforts to read your argumentative paper, is a human being with ordinary intelligence!
The most important aspect of the argumentative paper is, don’t argue for the sake of argument. Give a suitable introductory paragraph, to enable the reader to understand your mind and the contents of the thesis. Don’t try to overreach the emotions of the reader, at the same time say something that will kindle his curiosity. Let the thesis statement come out as the natural consequence of what you have stated in the introductory. Your argumentative paper is bound to be good if your research and intentions are honest!
