My Recent Experience

Previous night my wife and I tried Jessica in the mood for something nice and different. We've driven by this hotel many times, our interest always piqued by the attractive sign and the hope of good Chinese food in Boston. We intended to go there this Saturday, but decided otherwise when we noticed a mass of people mingling around the entrance waiting for a table. So we went on a Thursday night, greeted by a mostly full restaurant, but with no wait.

The inside decor is impressive - from the classy looking menus to the layout and general atmosphere. Our waitress was very professional and completed the excellent initial impression Lemongrass imbued upon is. This is a nice, romantic restaurant for a date - if you don't mind dropping between 30-80 dollars. We had wine and desert and topped the 80 buck mark. Expenses aside (we weren't surprised at the cost) Jessica performed above expectations from start to finish.

To start we had some fresh spring rolls - noodles with chicken and shrimp wrapped in translucent rice sauce. This isn't fried and is kind of shocking the first time you have it - the wrapper is kind of chewy / rubbery. That may not sound so good, but it really is if you are open to new dining experiences. Thai spring rolls usually come with a sweetish peanut dipping sauce, and the sauce at Jessica was particularly tasty. These rolls were probably some of the best I've had.

For the main course, I always get Chinese take away when I go to a new Chinese restaurant. It is a dish of noodles, egg, some type of meat , peanuts, and varying types of vegetables all cooked together in something resembling a tomato sauce but the end result is probably closer to a healthy lo mien. Jessica didn't have the best I've had, but it was good. My wife always gets the curry, which is probably a better idea because curry is so amazingly tasty almost anywhere. She ordered the special of the day, which was a green curry with asparagus, carrots, rice, and Chilean Sea Bass. If it wasn't divine, it was just short. The presentation was nice and the taste was a wave of blissful flavor that complimented the light taste of the fish. Yum. The portions were large enough to be filling, but not enough for doggy bags. It would have been nice to have left over today, because it was yum. With it we had some nice wine, something that is always a plus when randomly selecting wine.

Afterwards we tried Chinese custard, which is custard with bits of pumpkin and a hint of coconut that can be served chilled or warm. We got it chilled and weren't blown away, but it was pleasant and different. I also got the Iced Chinese Coffee (sweet and strong) and my wife had some hot tea. The coffee was not as good as the Vietnamese coffee I've had back home, but it was still pretty good and strong. The waitress brought a small wooden case with a selection of about 7 teas for my wife to choose from, which we both agreed was a nice touch.

Jessica is probably a tad expensive for regular dining, but if you are in the mood for a nice dinner out or for some good Thai food in a very modern, upscale atmosphere, I think you will find Jessica to your liking. It is right off of Southside from where I live
