2010 Soccer World Cup Nelspruit, South Africa A home to 2010. Warm and tropical, this is the largest town in Mpumalanga, the center where one of the 2010 football stadia is situated. The advantage of being in Nelspruit is that you will be away from the cold winters that sweep over the higher areas of South Africa during the period of the world Cup 2010. The main attraction in the area is the Kruger National Park. This is one of the biggest, and certainly one of the best known wildlife parks in the world. Most visitors are here to see the big five, which becomes a mega tick on the list of "must-do's" while in South Africa. Altogether there are 147 species of mammals, over 500 birds, 113 reptiles and 49 species of fish in the Park, giving wild life lovers the chance of seeing a huge variety of fauna. Management of the Park has endeavored to bring visitors closer to nature through trails and walks from almost every camp. These are also on the must do list and are relatively inexpensive for the thrill they bring. Further information may be obtained at www.parks-sa.co.za. One of the big advantages of staying in a smaller city such as Nelspruit is the freedom of movement. Mozambique is nearby, with its pristine beaches and thriving African feel. Nelspruit is a mere 40 minutes by air from Johannesburg, and the airport borders on the Kruger Park People are friendly and while most of the industry is forestry and fruit farming, there are modern shopping centres that offer everything a traveler needs. In addition there are a number of luxury private games reserves on the border of the Kruger Park. For those who are not driven to watch game, there are a number of spectacular sights to be seen in the areas along the escarpment, including God's window, Mac Mac Falls, Bourke's Potholes and the Blyde River Canyon which offers wonderful hiking opportunities.
